Privacy Policy
I collect and hold information about you as a legitimate interest as defined under the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
This privacy policy explains how I use any personal information I collect about you when you use my services. It also informs you of your rights and my responsibilities in the processing of your personal information under the General Data Protection Regulations. When I say ‘personal data’ I mean identifiable information about you, like your name, email, address, telephone number, bank account details, payment information, and so on.
What information do I collect about you?
I collect information about your current and previous psychological and physical health, and your current and previous social and family circumstances during your appointments. I will also collect information about you when you voluntarily complete questionnaires. I may also collect sensitive personal information defined as “Special Category Data” such as your sexual behaviour or orientation because I am providing psychological assessment or treatment to you.
How will I use the information about you?
I collect information about you to provide you with psychological recommendations or treatment. This information is confidential. I discuss your personal information in supervision with my supervisor (who is another psychologist or psychotherapist) for the purposes of ensuring that my practice is safe and effective, and as mandated by my professional bodies. I do not reveal your name when I share your information in supervision. My supervisor does not share your personal information with anyone else. If applicable, for example, at your request, I will from time to time write to your referrer with a summary of your treatment and progress. I will always obtain your consent and show you the content of such letters before sending them.
Sharing your personal information with third parties
I do not discuss your personal information with third parties. However, if my professional opinion was that there was an immediate and serious risk that you might harm yourself or someone else, then I may have to share your personal information with a third party such as your GP or the emergency services, without first obtaining your consent. This might be because it is not practically possible to obtain your consent or because attempting to do so might lead to a delay in accessing help and therefore endanger your life or that of another.
In situations where I did have to share your personal information with third parties to protect you or another, I will only share your personal information in so far as it is relevant and necessary to protect you or someone else. I will inform you what personal information I shared and to whom. It is possible that your personal information may be requested by a Court of Law, Coroners’ Office or Professional Body in which circumstances you may have limited or no rights of refusal.
You can pay for your sessions by bank transfer, card or cash. If you pay by bank transfer or card, then there is a record of your details on my banking information and/or statement for the iZettle card reader.
Your details may need to be shared in circumstances related to public health. For example, if I tested positive for coronavirus, then I may be asked to disclose your name and contact details with the NHS or track and trace service. If this were to happen nothing about our reason for meeting will be disclosed.
If I am unable to undertake my professional responsibilities in the case of illness, injury or death then your personal information will be shared with a trusted colleague who acts as my professional executor. This person will contact you and make the necessary arrangements (in collaboration with you) appropriate to the specific circumstances.
Recording or listening to sessions
I will not make a recording of our sessions or knowingly allow anyone to listen to any part of our sessions (unless you have consented for me to do so). You also agree not to record any of our sessions and not to let anyone listen to any part of our sessions without my prior agreement. This includes any method of communication e.g. via phone, Zoom or in person.
Social Media
Using social media is commonplace for both professionals and clients. It is important that you know how I will conduct myself on the internet as a psychologist. It is also important that you understand what my response will be if you contact me by social media. I ask you not to try to contact me via any social networking sites such as Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter. I won’t knowingly accept friend requests from a client I am working with or after therapy has been completed. This is to ensure that the boundaries of the relationship are maintained and to safeguard your confidentiality and our privacy. It is not part of my routine practice to search for clients on search engines such as Google. I will not be viewing client’s online content outside of therapy sessions unless we have agreed that this is an important part of therapy.
Access to your information and correction
You have the right to request a copy of the information that I hold about you. If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, please email me at drangelaturner@outlook.com.
I want to make sure that your personal information is accurate and up to date. You may ask me to correct or remove information that you think is inaccurate. You have the right to ask me to erase the personal information I hold about you. I can refuse the request if your personal information is needed in the defence or exercise of legal claims, or I believe there is an overriding legitimate interest to retain your information.
How to do I store your personal information
I keep your personal information in electronic records using your initials and numbers as identifiers. This information is stored on computer devices using encryption and password protected systems. Your identifying personal information i.e. name and address are kept separately from your record.
